What is

Medical Qigong?

Medical Qigong Therapy is an ancient branch of Chinese Medicine which treats the person at the level of jing (physical body), qi (life force) and shen (spirit/mind).  By removing obstacles to the flow of qi, deep healing is possible, and the client is able to access both clearer states of perception and naturally improved health. Medical Qigong is a comprehensive system of wellness, which includes clinical treatments as well as prescription exercises, postures, meditations, and focused intention, which empower clients to take an active role in their overall healing and wellness.   Ultimately, all healing comes from within.

Diagnosis is based on traditional Chinese medical theory.  Obstacles to the flow of qi may include prior physical injuries or surgeries as well as long-held toxic emotional patterns.  Medical Qigong works to remove these blockages to the flow of our life force to allow the internal organs to more efficiently and effectively work together to create and maintain wellness in the body, mind, emotions and spirit.  As a complement to Western medicine, it addresses the emotional and mental components to healing which are not within the realm of traditional treatment protocols.

Clients are treated lying on a table, fully clothed, and covered with a sheet.  Treatments involve work on and off the body including light touch, gentle stretching, and qi emission techniques to open the channels and meridians and release obstacles to wellness.  Treatments are deeply relaxing and rejuvenating.

After your session, exercises and meditations may be prescribed to prolong the effects of treatment.  The more proactive the client is in performing the prescription exercises and meditations, the faster the body can return to balance.  Weekly and monthly movement classes are available for support in a small group environment.
